In this wonderful and welcoming class geared toward older children, you will work on partner poses, adding elements of fun, connection, and trust between parent and child. Be ready for yoga-themed challenges like balancing a beanie baby on your head in tree pose or a friendly competition of who can hold a plank the longest. As we wind down, relaxation techniques such as guided imagery bring a sense of peace to savasana. A few minutes of quiet reflection allows families to absorb the positive energy cultivated during our practice.

BENEFITS OF YOGA FOR CHILDREN

If you’re reading this, it’s likely you already know about the many benefits adult stand to gain from a regular yoga practice. The benefits are the same for children, whether they are practicing yoga at school, camp, a birthday party, as part of a warm-up or cool-down for a sport, etc..

If every 8 year old in the world is taught meditation, we will eliminate violence from the world within one generation.
— Dalai Lama

A regular yoga practice can:

  • Improve mind/body awareness and connection

  • Bring children into the present moment

  • Emphasize individual abilities rather than competition

  • Encourage respect for others and oneself

  • Enhance focus and concentration
